From the Editor
Welcome to the first installment of
vh1vball's monthly newsletter! As we begin the 10th Anniversary Season of King & Queen volleyball tourneys here in Raleigh, there will be major additions to the programs offered. We'll be using this monthly mailing to provide updates on all the happenings. On or about the 1st of every month between March and October you'll be provided with a variety of topic updates, including:
Previews of scheduled events in the month to come
Recaps of events of the last month
An instructional article called Tricks of the Trade
An Ask V column with answers to questions submitted by readers in the past month
A From the Editor column which covers anything related to volleyball.
With that said, this inaugural newsletter is devoted to previewing the 2006 season for adults.
Be sure to check out the Beach Volleyball Hits the Triangle
article and the Ask V column for more info.
Keep an eye on the website and upcoming newsletters for updates and new promotional
offers! The first of these promotions is highlighted in the Get the Word
Out
column in this newsletter and should benefit both existing and potential new
members of the kqvolleyball Yahoo! group. If you haven't joined the
group, please take a moment following the instructions specified in this sign-up
promotion article.
vh1vball wishes everyone a great 2006 outdoor season!

Beach Volleyball hits the Triangle
Based
on input from area volleyball players,
vh1vball
will be offering multiple beach volleyball tournament events for the
2006 season primarily featuring traditional doubles formats. This will all be done with cooperation from the
Town of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, Raleigh Parks and Recreation and Carolina
Region/USAV.
We'll be holding the new beach volleyball events at Green Hope Elementary School Park and North Cary Park in Cary, and
Jaycee Park in Raleigh. All of these sites will be detailed in the next newsletter.
Don't worry though... the King & Queen and Reverse Co-ed grass tournaments aren't going anywhere!

Free Tournament Registration
Vh1vball is looking to spread the word about
events by getting people to join the kqvolleyball Yahoo! group. Not only
does this help increase awareness of events it adds value in negotiating
sponsorship deals which can bring in bigger prize payouts. With that
said, we are offering
free tournament registration to 3
participants of 2005 vh1vball tournaments who can get the most referrals to the Yahoo!
group. (And no Troy, you're not eligible!) This voucher will apply to the first tournament the
winning persons enter. The steps for getting a person joined are simple. Have the new
potential member do the following:
-
Click on the 'Referred
by a Friend' link provided in the Latest News section on the vh1vball
home page.
-
Enter their name and email address
-
Enter email address of referring person. (Note: New members do not have to have a referring email address to sign-up.)
-
Hit the 'Sign Me Up!' button and follow the directions received by the confirmation email to activate membership with the Yahoo! group
On top of that, all new members are
entered into a drawing for a free tournament registration voucher to be redeemed at their first vh1vball tournament, so please help get
the word out! Offer ends April 1st.

Tricks of the Trade
In this installment we'll
be highlighting the new division names that will be used this year along with other AVP-style
rules we'll be implementing.
If you're asking the question, 'What's with the new division names?', it's because we want to conform to the division names typically utilized at beach volleyball tournaments across the country. In order to keep things consistent, it made sense to apply the same division names to all our tournaments.

In keeping with AVP-style tournaments, we are applying the following new rules for this
year on a trial basis.
-
Short courts - 16 m x 8 m (52'6" x 26'3") will be used instead of the traditional court size of 18 m x 9 m
(59' x 29'6").
-
Antennas - Open divisions will start using them with the possibility they will also be applied to other divisions
-
Double elimination formats - Open divisions for the sand tournaments may be held using this format as an alternative to pool play followed by a single elimination playoff
-
New prize money payouts - Contingent on number of teams and sponsorship deals. Details will be forthcoming on the website and in the next newsletter.
