From the Editor
It's hard to believe that the heart of summer is upon us already. With it comes multiple vh1vball events which will offer a little bit of everything for all the adult and junior outdoor volleyball players out there. Check out the July Events preview for more info.
If you're an AVP fan, you know this is typically the busiest time of the year for beach volleyball events too. In fact, a few East Coast stops are almost here!! For more info about the AVP events including NEW Junior Clinics, take a moment to read the AVP Heads East article.
Additionally, here's this month's other highlights. Click on any of the links to read more:
vh1vball hopes everyone can make it out to one of the July events! In next month's issue we should hopefully be able to provide some status on budgeting requests for volleyball facility improvements in fiscal year 2007.

Hoping to build off the success of our May 20th event at Jaycee Park where we featured the very first Triangle Beach Junior Open alongside a King and Queen grass tournament, we'll be offering another mixed event with the Triangle Junior Beach Open Event #2 (Sign-up Now!) and a King and Queen Coed Grass Tourney (Sign-up Now!) on July 15th at Jaycee Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. After continued discussions with USAV's beach volleyball development director, we are pleased to annouce that this upcoming Triangle Junior Beach Open will offer an AAU Junior Olympics qualification bid to the winning team in each division with at least 3 teams and to the second place team as well if at least 6 teams are in a division. With that said, it's important to keep spreading the word and getting interested players to come out. The USAV beach volleyball director was impressed by the turnout we had for our first juniors event and the strong showing area teams had when competing in regional events in Virginia Beach and Orlando.
July will also feature the third event in the adult Triangle Beach Series, known as the July Jamboree, which will be held on Sat, July 29th at Green Hope and North Cary Parks (Sign-up Now!). As with May's tourney, we will offer all divisions in Men's, Women's and Coed formats. For those of you who typically play only Coed, please feel free to sign up if interested.
And finally, the month of July will wrap up with our Reverse Coed Grass Tourney on Sun, July 30th. (Sign-up Now!) at Baileywick Park in Raleigh.

NC Junior Teams Bring Home Top Honers in VA Beach
Three Triangle area teams ventured up to VA Beach recently to participate in the Virginia AAU District Beach Volleyball Championships on June 10th. Held on the beach, the teams gained experience playing in the gusty winds that are typical of most volleyball tournaments held on the beach. Despite the elements, NC teams finished first and second in the U16 Girls divisions. First place winners were Lindsay Lang and Adria Fecteau, shown in the picture at the top of this article. They were followed closely behind by second place finishers Rachel Devon and Meagan Tatum, shown passing in the below picture. Also participating were Anna Hayes and Katie Tatum.
vh1vball would like to extend a big congratulations to the teams! By finishing first and second, Lindsay/Adria and Rachel/Meagan have now earned qualification bids into the AAU Junior Olympics to be held at the end of July in Virginia Beach. In the process they've helped put North Carolina on the map when it comes to juniors beach volleyball.
We are also happy to report that the next Triangle Beach Junior Open tournament on July 15th will offer qualification bids to the AAU JO so for all you aspiring beach volleyball players, come on out for sun, fun, and lots of volleyball!

AVP Heads East
This month the AVP heads East with 3 events being held. The following events represent a great opportunity for AVP fans in the area to see the best beach volleyball players in the country competing in person. For anyone who has not been to an AVP event, in addition to a stadium court, many of the other courts are laid out so fans can basically roam around the courts, walk up to the side of any of the courts, and be within a few feet of all the players. It is truly a unique sporting event.
vh1vball especially recommends that junior beach players make an effort to attend one of these events. As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, current AVP star Holly McPeak stated that it was when she attended her first AVP event at the age of 10 that she fell in love with the sport. Many others would agree with her. Holly will be among the players participating in these events. Additionally, at all of these events, there will be junior clinics run by some of the pros. Learn from the Best: USAV High Performance Beach Camp
It's not often that one will find a sports camp run by one of the all-time greats. And in the case of beach volleyball, which was invented and is still predominantly a Southern California sport, it's even rarer to find a camp on the East Coast run by an all-time great. This is what makes this year's USAV High Performance Beach Camp to be held in Virginia Beach a remarkable opportunity for junior volleyball players interested in the beach game. Beach legend Sinjin Smith will be involved with the camp! His 20+ years of playing experience during the 1980s and 1990s, both domestically and internationally, has made him the 2nd all-time tournament winner, second only to fellow beach legend Karch Kiraly. Sinjin has always been one of the biggest proponents of spreading beach volleyball around the world. He now spends most of his time running junior beach camps in California - www.beachvolleyballcamps.com and providing TV commentary at AVP events.
